Nerve cells are designed to transmit messages throughout the body. As part of the nervous system, these connect the brain, sensory organs, and the spinal cord together and to the rest of the body in order to maintain control and communication. This communication is achieved through electrochemical signals between nerve cells. These cells are structured with a cell body with branching dendrites, which receive messages, and a long tail, called an axon, that sends messages.
